Video Poker is a beloved game that usually will be played in casinos around the globe, or alternatively at your house on your PC, through an Internet connection. The rules are very simple and consist of the player trying to get the greatest combination of cards as you can in order to win cash. In this respect it is much the same as a normal game of poker, without the interaction with any other players. Of course, techniques employed during a physical game of poker, such as bluffing, will be irrelevant in Video Poker.

The game of Electronic Poker begins when the enthusiast puts credits (whether it’s tokens, credit slips or cash) into the video poker machine and presses the draw button. A hand of five cards will be "dealt" on the video screen.

The Electronic Poker machine also has buttons with ‘hold’ written on them, and players will need to now decide which cards to hold and which to throw away. For the cards the enthusiast wishes to retain, the ‘hold’ buttons need to be pressed so that they illuminate. The player can decide to keep any number of cards they want, whether it is all or none.

After the gambler has decided on which cards he or she would like to retain, the player will then press ‘deal’, at which point any new cards will be needed they will be given out. The round is now finished, with the Video Poker machine analyzing the cards to see if it is the same as any of the winning hands printed on the payment schedule.

Typically, the lowest winning hand on an Electronic Poker machine is a pair of jacks with the prize money increasing for each and every better hand. A list of common winning hands begins with jacks or better, and moves on to 2 pairs, three of a kinds, straights, flushes, full houses, 4 of a kinds, straight flushes and last but not least royal flushes. It should be known that the payment schedule can range from machine to machine, so that skillful gamblers are able to select the most beneficial machine each instance.

After the initial round has played out, the player can either choose to continue on and try to to increase their winnings, or they can press the ‘collect’ button to cash out any money that has been won. Additionally, a few styles of the game allow the gambler an opportunity to double their profits, in which case a further hand is played. There are also variations among specific games, with some decks of cards including wild cards and other varying characteristics to enhance playability.
